Dharma Teaching by HH Living Buddha Liansheng
Next Sunday will be the Ghost Festival Homa Ceremony of Padmasambhava, which also commemorates the birthday of Padmasambhava. On Saturday, August 22, Rainbow Temple will conduct the Ghost Festival True Buddha Repentance Ceremony. Everyone is welcome to register.

The origin of Sitatapatra dates back to a war between Indra and Asura. When Indra was defeated in battle, he sought help from Shakyamuni Buddha. From his ushnisha, Shakyamuni Buddha manifested the Great White Invincible Buddha Mother with a thousand hands, a thousand arms, and a thousand feet. Shakyamuni Buddha then proclaimed the Sitatapatra Dharani Mantra. Sitatapatra shielded the entire realm of Indra and boomeranged the attacks of the asuras back to them. This prevented the asuras from attacking, thereby bringing the war to an end.

The dharma was transmitted by Nona Rinpoche to Reverend Liaoming, who then transmitted it to Grandmaster Lu. The most important aspect of Sitatapatra is her shielding and boomeranging power.

What does “boomeranging” mean? Whatever degree of spiritual power is directed toward you, she sends it right back to its source. What does “shielding” mean? No matter how much spiritual power is directed toward you, she can shield you from it.

If someone casts a curse or performs black magic against you, as long as you cultivate the Sitatapatra Practice and are protected by her great white parasol, you are beneath the protection of the parasol, and no curse can penetrate it. Even ghosts and spirits cannot enter. Therefore, she is also known as the Mother Who Boomerangs and Shields, with boomeranging and shielding being her key functions.

In daily life, practitioners can also use the boomeranging-and-shielding method to establish a protective boundary, thereby avoiding interference from ghosts and spirits. Simply recite the mantra in reverse order, “So-ha, ni-hum, ma-ma, hum.” This is the boomeranging-and-shielding mantra of Sitatapatra.

Q&A
Question from Lotus Weitian(威菾) (Malaysia)
(菾 is pronounced “tian,” meaning sweet.)

Disciple Lotus Weitian and family members wholeheartedly prostrate to Namo Root Lineage Guru, His Holiness Living Buddha Liansheng, praying for Guru’s great lineage blessing.

I respectfully ask His Holiness to compassionately enlighten us:
The Hundred-Syllable Mantra of Vajrasattva has a long mantra and a short mantra. Does the Hundred-Syllable Mantra of the Wrathful Deity also have a short mantra?

Thank you for Guru’s compassionate teachings! With utmost sincerity, I pray that Guru Buddha will remain in this world. May Guru’s body be healthy, may he remain in this world, and may he turn the Dharma Wheel extensively. I pray for the great blessing of the lineage!

Om, Guru, Lian-sheng, Siddhi, Hum.

Disciple Lotus Weitian
Prostrating one hundred times in gratitude

His Holiness’ Answer
For the short mantra, replace “sah-do” with “he-ru-ka.” “Heruka” actually symbolizes the Wrathful Deity without distinction between male and female.
“Dakini” is used for female practitioners.
For male practitioners, recite:
Om, bie-zha-he-ru-ka, ah-hum-pei.”
For female practitioners, recite:
Om, bie-zha-da-ki-ni, ah-hum-pei.”
Either “Ah-hum-pei” or “Hum-hum-pei” may be used.

His Holiness’ Commentary on the Surangama Sutra, Volume Five
At this point, Shakyamuni Buddha addressed the many bodhisattvas and arhats, saying: “You bodhisattvas and great arhats have learned my Buddhadharma and attained the state where there is no more to learn. Now I ask you: When you first aroused the aspiration, how did you realize that the eighteen realms fundamentally do not exist? Which method enabled you to attain perfect enlightenment? Which method did you use to enter the deepest state of meditation, thereby realizing and seeing the wondrously luminous true mind?”

His Holiness asked everyone whether they still had afflictions. Some indicated that their outflows had not yet been exhausted.

What does “outflows exhausted” mean? It means attaining the state where there is no more to learn. Those who have attained enlightenment have no afflictions; those who have not realized enlightenment will continue to have afflictions.

Why were Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva able to become great bodhisattvas? Because their outflows had already been exhausted. In other words, they had completely liberated themselves from afflictions.

If practitioners understand the Heart Sutra and the Prajnaparamita Sutras, they will no longer have afflictions. If they still have afflictions, it means they have not yet understood their meaning. No seeking, no concern, and no interference. Once one realizes these principles, one will no longer have afflictions and will learn the spirit of detachment.

Who can prevent the human body from deteriorating? Its deterioration is merely a matter of time. This is only a dream. No matter what state one reaches, it is still a dream. Birth and death are, in truth, nothing extraordinary.

The true principle is: birth brings suffering, while death brings peace. Once one realizes the principles taught in the Buddhist Heart Sutra, one understands that ultimately there is nothing. As long as a practitioner realizes the original luminosity and their true nature, it is present at all times. Otherwise, one simply continues dreaming through the cycle of the Six Realms.

The Three Dharma Seals taught by Shakyamuni Buddha are:
  • All conditioned phenomena are impermanent.
  • All dharmas are without self.
  • Nirvana is tranquil.

Anything that accords with these three principles is Buddhadharma. At the Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva Ceremony, His Holiness will explain these principles more clearly.

The reason people suffer is that they are bound by the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. What harms you is never someone else; it is your own six sense faculties. Only by eliminating the eighteen realms can one attain the Way. If one cannot eliminate them, one remains caught in the cycle of the Six Realms.
