  • His Holiness prayed to Heaven for rain to cool the weather and help control the wildfires.
  • Q&A: The Zashi Lhamo statue may be enshrined together with other deities or separately.
  • Essence of the Surangama Sutra: Upon realizing selflessness, one will attain the forbearance of non-arising dharmas.

Dharma Teaching by HH Living Buddha Liansheng
Next week’s ceremony will be the Sitatapatra Homa Ceremony. Sitatapatra Buddha Mother possesses boundless spiritual power and manifested from the radiance emitted from the ushnisha of Shakyamuni Buddha. At that time, a war broke out between Heavenly Emperor and Asura. The Heavenly Emperor prayed to Shakyamuni Buddha for help. Shakyamuni Buddha therefore manifested Sitatapatra Buddha Mother to protect the heavenly realm.

The palace of Yellow Jambhala is in the north, and most wealth deities in Vajrayana Buddhism are located in the north. His son is the White Jambhala who rides a dragon.

The wildfires in Spain came under control after the practice involving three cups of ice water was performed. At present, there is air pollution, hot weather, and wildfires in many places. His Holiness prayed to Heaven on behalf of all sentient beings for rain to cool the weather and help bring the wildfires under control.

Q&A
Question from Lotus Lizhi (Malaysia)

Amitabha Buddha.

I respectfully pay homage to Grandmaster and Shimu. May you be auspicious.

I, disciple Lotus Lizhi, am grateful to Grandmaster for transmitting the Zashi Lhamo Secret Practice for Sudden Wealth.
  1. Please compassionately enlighten me on how the statue of Zashi Lhamo should be enshrined in a cultivation venue or home shrine.

Can it be enshrined together with all Buddhas and bodhisattvas on the shrine, or is it necessary to establish a separate Zashi Lhamo shrine?
  2. Please compassionately enlighten me: A fellow disciple asked whether there are any zodiac signs whose people should not wear Zashi Lhamo pendants.

I pray that Grandmaster and Shimu remain healthy and enjoy peace, happiness, and auspiciousness.

Disciple Lotus Lizhi, with palms joined.
Thank you, Grandmaster, for your compassionate teachings.
Om. Guru. Liansheng. Siddhi Hum.

His Holiness’ Answer
After consulting the Buddhas and bodhisattvas, the statue may be enshrined together with other deities or separately. As for Zashi Lhamo pendants, people of all twelve zodiac signs may wear them; there are no restrictions.

His Holiness’ Commentary on the Surangama Sutra, Volume Five
Shakyamuni Buddha asked whether the six knots in this khata could all be untied at once. Venerable Ananda replied that this was not possible. The knots had originally been tied in sequence, so they must also be untied in sequence. Although these knots were all tied in the khata of the wondrously luminous true mind, they were not all formed at the same time. Therefore, they could not possibly all be untied at once.

Shakyamuni Buddha said that the same applies to the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. They must be untied one by one. First one knot is untied, then the second, third, and fourth, until all the knots are untied. Once they are all untied, there is emptiness, and the wondrously luminous true mind manifests. This is realizing the wondrously luminous true mind; this is a bodhisattva. Through meditation, a bodhisattva can attain the forbearance of non-arising dharmas, which is the Eighth Ground, the Ground of Non-Retrogression. At that time, the “I” becomes empty, which is called “emptiness of the person.” The external world also becomes empty, which is called “emptiness of dharmas.”

His Holiness said that everyone living in this world has a sense of “I.” “Emptiness of self” means the absence of this “I.” Sentient beings in this world all take themselves as the center. The first knot to untie in cultivation is to remove this very “I.” This is indeed not easy. Conflicts between people, disharmony within families, and tensions between races and countries all originate from this sense of “I.”

At the Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva Fall Grand Ceremony, His Holiness will teach how to remove this “I.” Once it is removed, everything will become equal. When a practitioner then views the world with an equanimous mind, they will understand that “dharmas” are also empty. When Buddhas and bodhisattvas view affairs in the human world, it is like human beings looking at ants. In truth, there is really nothing to it.

His Holiness reminded everyone to do things that bring themselves joy and not to immerse themselves in suffering. Although the Saha world is a dream, a good dream is still better than a nightmare. Shakyamuni Buddha said that asceticism is not the Way. What matters is that practitioners recognize “emptiness of self.” Once the “I” is no longer there, where could karma come from? Without karma, one can naturally attain the fruition of Buddhahood and Bodhisattvahood.

Why is His Holiness willing to give gifts to his disciples? Because he is willing to let go, and because everyone is equal. His Holiness receives offerings from all disciples, so naturally he also gives back to them. “Giving to you is the same as giving to myself,” His Holiness told everyone. Everything in the human world is merely something we “borrow” for a time.

As stated in the Diamond Sutra: there is no appearance of self, no appearance of a person, no appearance of a sentient being, and no appearance of a lifespan. As long as practitioners can deeply enter samadhi and realize these truths, they can naturally attain the fruition of a bodhisattva.
