Participation of Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple in the 2026 Walk for Rice Charity Event
Putting into Practice the Compassionate Teachings of Living Buddha Liansheng
Reported by Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple
On May 16, 2026, Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple joyfully participated in the annual “Walk for Rice” charity event held at Seward Park. Through concrete action, the temple supported the food bank of Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS), helping provide food assistance to families in need throughout Seattle and surrounding communities.
More than just a charity walk, the event aimed to unite the community through participation, fostering the spirit of care and mutual support while spreading compassion and warmth. This year’s event drew over a hundred participants. Many families attended together with their beloved pets, making the atmosphere even livelier than in previous years. Old friends also had the opportunity to reconnect and exchange greetings while supporting this meaningful cause together.
That morning, the weather around the founding temple area was pleasantly cool. The temple’s abbot, Reverend Lianyin (蓮吟), led a group of 12 participants, including masters, senior reverends, reverends, Dharma instructors, Dharma assistants, and fellow disciples, to the event site. Following a warm-up dance session, the jogging group set off first, followed by the walking group along the lakeside trail of Seward Park. The route covered approximately 2.5 to 3 miles (4 to 5 kilometers). In a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, everyone encouraged and accompanied one another while enjoying the beautiful lake views and natural scenery. The fresh morning air and the sight of small animals moving through the park also became a natural classroom for the children.
His Holiness Living Buddha Liansheng often teaches disciples to practice compassion sincerely, perform virtuous deeds extensively, and benefit sentient beings. Even the smallest kind thought or action can bring warmth, hope, and strength to others.
For many years, Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple has continuously supported the Walk for Rice charity initiative. During this year’s event, the temple’s donation ranked among the top contributions announced by the organizers, reflecting the collective generosity and compassionate support of the community.
Throughout the walk, participants felt the enthusiasm and positive energy shared by other community groups. The event was not merely about exercise or walking; participants silently recited the Padmakumara Mantra during the walking meditation, forming positive affinities with countless beings. In doing so, they brought the Buddhist spirit of compassion into everyday life by learning to care for others, serve society, and help those in need with practical actions.
Through participation in the Walk for Rice charity event, Reverend Lianyin expressed the hope of continuing to support community service initiatives while also strengthening fellowship and connections among monastics and disciples. The event further encouraged more people to devote themselves to charitable service and carry forward the spirit of compassion and care.
Looking ahead to next year’s meaningful Walk for Rice event, the temple hopes even more people will join in support and participation. Beyond benefiting oneself through healthy exercise, the event also helps others obtain nourishment and care, gathering countless small acts of kindness to bring greater warmth and hope to society.
