2026 Fall Banquet Offering to the Sangha

In gratitude for the Sangha’s tireless efforts in spreading the Dharma and carrying on the Buddha’s wisdom lineage, and with prayers for the True Dharma to remain in the world, for the Buddhadharma to spread widely, and for devotees to increase in both blessings and wisdom, the True Buddha Foundation will host a Banquet Offering to the Sangha during the Seattle Fall Ceremony.

We sincerely invite all virtuous believers from all directions to join in this meritorious offering, thereby cultivating profound Dharma connections and sharing in the blessings of the Dharma.

Offering to the Sangha Brings the Greatest Merit
According to the Ullambana Sutra:
Maudgalyayana, the foremost disciple of the Buddha in spiritual powers, saw in deep meditation that his late mother had fallen into the realm of hungry ghosts, suffering endless torment. He asked the Buddha how he might rescue his mother from such misery. The Buddha instructed that on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, the day of the Sangha’s Pravarana (the end of the summer retreat), one should place a hundred varieties of food in a basin to make offerings to the Sangha of the ten directions. By the merit of this offering, one’s present parents will enjoy a full lifespan of a hundred years, free from illness and suffering, and even parents of seven generations past will be released from the suffering of the hungry ghost realm, reborn among the heavenly beings, and attain boundless happiness. Following the Buddha’s instruction, Maudgalyāyana offered to the Sangha, and his mother was indeed freed from the hungry ghost realm.

The Venerable Master Xuyun also taught: “The Buddha and the Dharma, the Two Jewels, rely upon the Sangha Jewel for their preservation. Without the Sangha, there would be no one to transmit the Buddha and the Dharma, and wholesome roots could find no place to grow. Therefore, the merit of offering-to-the-Sangha is the greatest.”
