Mahottara Heruka is a manifestation of the Primordial Buddha, with marvelous features such as the Hundred Peaceful and Wrathful Deities Practice and the Bardo-deliverance Practice. These practices help the deceased attain liberation in the intermediate state and re-birth the Pure Land respectively. The Whole Body Clairvoyant Eyes Practice enables practitioners to attain the third eye and perceive their Buddha-nature.
On the day of the homa ceremony, His Holiness will, with his great power, invoke Mahottara to descend to the altar for calamity eradication, blessing, healing, and deliverance, benefiting both the living and the deceased.
