Explanation of "First Seven" and "Seven Sevens"

This coming Friday, Instructor Wu Zizai, who is erudite and talented, will teach the 5th Course of True Buddha Online University, Etiquette of Life. He will cover Chapter 4, What Family Members of the Deceased Should Know, Lesson 4, Explanation of "First Seven" and "Seven Sevens."

"Doing Seven" is a folk funeral custom in East Asia. According to the custom, a memorial service is held every seven days after a person's death, and each seven-day period is considered a phase. The memorial services continue in this manner until the seventh phase, and are considered complete after 49 days. This 49-day cycle is known as the "Seven Sevens."
