On Sept. 25, 2020, the Seattle True Buddha Foundation (TBF) office clarified as follows:
Root Lineage Guru Dharma King Lian-sheng instructed that Vajrasattva and Vajra Heart Bodhisattva are Vajra-holder. All True Buddha School practitioners are Vajra-holder. Therefore, when cultivating Vajrasattva or Vajra Heart Bodhisattva Practice, all practitioners may form the Vajra-holder Mudra. From now on, the Vajrasattva, Vajra-holder, and Vajra Heart Bodhisattva Mudras are the Embracing Mudra.
Embracing Mudra Description:
Form the left and right hands into fists with the thumbs on top of and pressing against the index fingers. Cross the arms facing and in front of the chest with the right arm on top of the left arm.
【Explanation】:
On Nov. 10, 2013, at Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple, Root Lineage Guru Dharma King Lian-sheng discoursed as follows: Vajradhara holds a vajra sceptre in front of his chest with each hand respectively whereas Vajra-holder holds a vajra sceptre in one hand and a vajra bell in the other.
In the chapter “True Buddha Vajra Heart Dharma” in True Buddha Secrets Within Secrets, the Vajra Heart Bodhisattva Mudra (Diagram 2) is described as : The right hand makes a fist facing inward with the thumb outside the fist. The left hand makes a fist facing outward with the thumb inside the fist. Hold this mudra in front of the chest.
Both mudras described in Diagram 1 and Diagram 2 above are acceptable for individual practice.
For uniformity, when cultivating group practice, everyone please form the Vajrasattva Embracing Mudra.
Best Regards,
True Buddha Foundation
