How to validate the wisdom of Tathagata Buddha with Emptiness and Concreteness

Following the ``Maha Mayuri Vidyarajni Deity Ceremony`` Dharma congregation on the 9th of September 2009, the zeal and fervor of which had spanned to this day-September 26, 2009, the night of regular weekend group cultivation at Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple in the vicinity of Seattle. From China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Holland, various states of U.S.A., and Edmonton and Calgary of Canada and so on, all over the world, had come numerous dedicated and supportive Acharya Masters, Dharma Instructors, rank-and-file missionaries and fellow devotees totaling approximately 300 people as if another major Dharma congregation had taken place. Inside as well as outside of Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple were bustled with crowds of people; each and every person was longing eagerly to receive personal blessing of Grand Master and Shimu.

Under the guidance of Acharya Shi Lian-Jie Master, the company of devout crowds were devotedly engaged in the cultivation of ``Lapis Lazuli Light Medicine Buddha Deity Yoga.`` Upon completion of the Deity Yoga group cultivation, Dharma Instructor Shi Lian-Hsiang shared the moral of his experience in his spiritual endeavor. He said to the effect that spiritual endeavor can be likened to climbing a mountain. In perspective of the distantly large goal, one ought to work every small detail and take one step at a time assiduously along the way, in a ``conscientiously disciplinary`` manner. The practitioner would need to experience ``sourness ,`` ``sweetness,`` ``bitterness`` and ``spiciness `` in the process, so that he or she can attain happiness by successfully implementing the procedure or discipline pertained to the pursuit of enlightenment for one`s self and others.

Following that, Acharya Shi Lian-Jie Master spoke of swiftness of time in her exposition. She said that in a wink of an eye, 16 years has elapsed since the time when she first took the ordination of monkhood. She has seen all the rises and falls of human existence, impermanence in human affairs and has a strong belief, born of experience, that entering upon spiritual/Dharma discipline as early as possible, is of the utmost importance. The Acharya Master also encouraged the practitioner to free the mind of defilements; to discipline assiduously and progressively; to abide by precepts, practice Dhyana and attain wisdom; to associate extensively on good terms; to act for a good cause; and thus accumulate good merits towards monkhood. Lastly, Acharya Shi Lian-Jie Master concluded her exposition with a highly enlightening passage written by Grand Master to encourage the audiences: ``Entering and exiting the mundane world are equal; for as long as the mind is enlightened, entering is no longer entering and exiting is no longer exiting. However foul the mundane world is, it is still a Pure Land of Buddhas proper. One is free of defilements upon exiting the mundane world, and is equally free of defilements upon entering the mundane world.``

Dharma King Lian-Sheng, Grand Master continued expounding on Chapter 2 of the book, ``The Altar Sutra as Spoken by the Sixth Patriarch .`` In the section on Prajna Grade, the Sixth Patriarch spoke: ``The Prajna immanent in them is exactly the same as that in the very wise men; but they failed to enlighten themselves when the Dharma is made known to them. Why? Because they are quickly veiled by erroneous views and deep-rooted defilements, in the same way as the sun may be thickly veiled by cloud and unable to show its light until the wind blows the cloud away.`` Grand Master expounded that sentient beings` thinking is being hampered by anxiety and erroneous views have handicapped enlightenment of Tathagata`s wisdom. Human existence is comparable to a long-lasting dream in which money, sensuality, prestige, food and sleep are altogether a manifestation of the ``concreteness`` phenomenon; a dream, an illusion, a bubble and a shadow are a manifestation of the ``emptiness`` phenomenon; calling forth the genuine wisdom of Tathagata in order to validate ``concreteness`` and ``emptiness .`` These two phenomena are interchangeable and complementary. A genuinely enlightened person`s heart is boundless, infinite and limitless; he or she is not concerned over the phenomena of ``emptiness`` and ``concreteness .`` Grand Master went on to mention that he has been enlightened long since, and to this day, he has never publicly divulged the secret of Sakyamuni Buddha`s modus operandi in attainment of enlightenment under the Boddhi tree. Grand Master spoke with resoluteness that, ``My being able to keep a secret is my resolute resistance to `sell Tathagata Buddha out`.`` As soon as this was said, the attending devotees replied with a deafening applause.

At the end of the group cultivation and Grand Master`s exposition, in the midst of recital of Buddha`s name, Grand Master compassionately imparted refuge empowerment on new initiates, sanctified the Buddha statues and blessed the Great Compassion water. Upon leaving the temple, Grand Master also bless empowered the devotees kneeling down along both sides of a human aisle by palming their heads. All attending devotees left the temple satisfied.
