【Precious Dharma Discourse of Dharma King Living Buddha Lian-sheng Sheng-yen Lu】:
The three longevity deities of Vajrayana are Ushnishavijaya, Longevity Buddha, and White Tara. By cultivating the Ushnishavijaya Practice, one will have long life, extend one's lifespan, gain the power of infinite merit, and benefit all sentient beings.
Ushnishavijaya is equivalent to the Three Protectors. Her three faces represent power, compassion, and wisdom, which are all extremely important. Ushnishavijaya is the emanation of power, compassion, and wisdom. As for White Tara, she is my precept teacher. She taught me many precepts of Vajrayana. White Tara is not only my cultivation partner, but also my precepts master. One should always bear in mind how exalted she is. I am grateful for White Tara's precept teachings and for Ushnishavijaya as well, whose nature is that of the Three Protectors. They are both very important. The Amitayus Mudra is the same as the Meditation Mudra of Amitabha. (Grandmaster demonstrates the mudras.) The key point is that there is a longevity bottle atop the Amitayus Mudra. One will have longevity as long as one attains spiritual union with the deity and is able to obtain nectar from the deity's bottle.
