The Great Perfection: The Nine Cycle Breathing Excercise is the Basic Practice for Chi

On Saturday, September 21st, 2013, Living Buddha Lian-sheng, the Dharma King Lu Sheng-yen presided over the Padmasambhava Personal Deity Practice at True Buddha Temple in Seattle.

After the group practice, Dharma King Lian-sheng paid respect to lineage gurus, welcomed all dignities present, as well as on the Web, and started the Dharma Talk as follows:.............

Padmasambhava was in Tibet for 50 years spreading Tantric Buddhist and established Samye Monastery. He is the founder of oldest Tibetan Buddhist School and Tibetans gave him the honorary title of Guru Rinpoche.

In those days, Padmasambhava subjugated the local religion at the time and turned their gods into Dharma Protectors for Vajrayana Buddhism. Hence he became the precious lineage holder spreading buddhism to the whole world. Padmasambhava is highly respected by all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. If merge and reach yoga with Padmasambhava would have reached yoga with Guru, Personal Deity, and Dharma Protector.

Dharma King Living Budhha Liang-shen continued to introduce the Kalachakra fire offering ceremony. Due to the fact that the Dharma of Kalachakra had been introduced to all five continents, created the affinity for disciples and followers all around the world to attend tomorrow ceremony. One can see its Dharma affinity and power!

Dharma King Lian-sheng brought up subject of ’The Great Perfection’ practice which could lead to attainment of Buddhahood in this life and Rainbow Light Attainment. But how do we start this practice?

Dharma King Lian-sheng said The Great Perfection also emphasize on Chi (energy), channels, and drops. When the root chi (energy) is full, and the middle channel from the crown chakra to the genital chakra are clear, clear drops can drop to the genital chakra and then brought up to the brow point chakra which means all channels to all chakras are clear. Then we can start the practice of ’opening of the crown’ and ’seeing the light’

The Basic Practice is (The Nine Cycle Breathing Exercise). Dharma King Liansheng continued with detail explanation and demonstration of the procedure for the Nine Cycle Breathing which is also the complete breathing cycle.

1. Sit properly and straight
2. Visualize oneself as an empty shell
3. Visualize your personal deity sitting facing you.
4. Visualize your personal deity emitting white light from his nose.(at this time, use your fingertip of the little finger on your left hand to block your left nostril) Inhale the white light through the right nostril into the right channel down to the Swadhisthana Chakra and the white light turn to red which would go upward through the left channel. At this time change using the fingertip of your little finger of your right hand and block your right nostril and let go of your left nostril blockage and let the air turn black as it comes out the left nostril. This is the first stage of the Nine Cycle Breathing Practice.
5. Visualize again your personal deity emitting light from his nostril. Using the tip of the little finger on the right hand to block your right nostril and inhale the white light through our left nostril. The white light goes down the left channel to the Swadhisthana Chakra and becomes red. As the red light goes up the right channel, change your blockage from the right to the left. You exhale the black light out the right nostril. This is the second stage of the Nine Cycle Breathing Practice.
6. Visualize again your personal deity emitting white light from his nose. Cultivator inhales this white light through both nostrils and uses both fingertips to block both nostrils. The inhaled white light goes down both right and left channels to the Swadhisthana Chakra. Turns red and go up the middle channel all the way up to the crown chakra. Unable to to go out, the red light returns down the middle channel to the Swadhisthana Chakra and goes up the right and left the channel. You exhale black light out both nostrils. This is the third stage of the Nine Cycle Breathing.
7. The fourth stage is left nostril breath in white light and comes out the right nostril as black air. Stage five is inhale white light through the right nostril and exhales black air through the left nostril. Stage six is both nostril inhales the white light and exhales black air through both nostrils.
8. Stage seven is inhale white light through both nostrils and exhales black air through both nostrils. Stage eight is inhales white light through right nostril and exhales black air through left nostril. Stage nine is inhales white light through left nostril and exhales black air through right nostril.
9. The pith instruction for the above is ’ soft, slow and long’. Soft means detail. Slow means focus. Long means whole complete breath. One needs to practice this Nine Cycle Breathing Exercise for at least 6 months to a year.
10. When one is familiar with this practice, then it is not necessary to block the nostril with your hand and just do with visualization.

After Dharma King Liansheng demonstrated the complete Nine Cycle Breathing, he explained the benefits of this exercise.
1. Healthy body and eliminated the karma of sickness.
2. The focusness can turn to calm and wisdom will come from this calmness.
3. Can cure inattentiveness and any illness cause by unable to concentrate.
4. Abundance of root energy and could clear the middle channel.
5. This is the safest breathing exercise without any side effects.
6. Can eliminate worries and bad karma
7. Can modify the emotions and let the heart be peaceful.

These days, it is hard for many people to fall asleep, insomnia problems. This is why Dharma King Liansheng reminded us again the three conditions necessary for falling asleep.

1. Empty your mind. Let go of all the worries and through them in the garbage can.
2. Body must be relaxed. No specific body position. Just whatever position is comfortable for you.
3. Breathing must be smooth. Often practice the Nine Cycle Breathing is the same as practicing focus and concentration.

The Basic Practice for the Great Perfection is this Nine Cycle Breathing, which is really the method for the beginning of focus on concentration!

Dharma King Lian-sheng ’ s detail demonstration of the Nine Cycle Breathing and all the pith instructions to the audiences received loud clappings from everyone present and with grateful feelings of this precious knowledge and teachings.

Lastly Living Buddha Lian-sheng, Lu Sheng-yen sang Buddhas name with everyone and compassionately granted taking refuge empowerment and empowerment of the compassionate water and buddha statues.

This group practice ended with Dharma King Lian-seng patting everyone on the head to give blessing and empowerment in an atmosphere of auspiciousness.
