Every year, it is customary for Living Buddha Lian-sheng to bestow a symbolic Chinese word for the new lunar year. For the last two years, Grandmaster bestowed the Chinese words “one” (一)[ a new beginning] for 2020 and “prolonged” (延) for 2021. These words perfectly described the world situation during the last two years.

In keeping with tradition, HH Living Buddha Lian-sheng has bestowed the word “dawn” (曙) to describe the world outlook for 2022. Notably, the first rays of light to appear on the first morning of the Year of the Tiger will illuminate the entire world. In other words, the first appearance of light in the Tiger Year will be like the light of dawn breaking upon a gloomy year, foretelling an extraordinary and auspicious year ahead.

As 2021 draws to a close, mutations of the COVID-19 virus continue to rage in many countries. Ordinary citizens are struggling to survive as countries have reimposed border restrictions and travel bans to stop the spread of the virus. It therefore goes without saying that this has been a difficult and challenging year for people around the world.

In the past year, the world has been confronted with dangers posed by new COVID variants, and has suffered extensive damage from flash floods, heavy downpours, typhoons, earthquakes, bushfires, drought, volcanic eruptions and tornadoes. As the end of the year approaches, we are once again witnessing the wrath of nature in the form of widespread tornadoes in the United States and major volcanic eruptions in Indonesia. During these challenging times, it is more important than ever to seek peace of mind through faith in Buddhadharma. We must subjugate disasters and calamities through the power of a formidable tiger, and revive the sluggish global economy caused by the pandemic.

With the Renyin Year of the Tiger fast approaching, Grandmaster has instructed that Golden Mother’s wrathful Tiger Head Vajra emanation will be the enrichment and infliction suppression mascot of the new lunar year. Since Tiger Head Vajra is the emanation of Jade Pond Golden Mother, and Jade Pond Golden Mother is the divine deity eradicating pestilence, the True Buddha Foundation (TBF) has designated Tiger Head Vajra as the principal deity of the 2022 TBS Praying for the World Event.

TBF has invited TBS masters to simultaneously preside over a Tiger Head Vajra homa. TBF has further arranged for cultivation venues worldwide to hold a 24-hour Tiger Head Vajra mantra recitation relay to pray for the world. We pray that, with Grandmaster’s great blessings, our mantra recitations will resound in all corners of the world, generating a protective net of light!
