Today, we conducted a homa of Namo Fundamental Teacher Shakyamuni Buddha who is the founder of Buddhism and honored by both Sutrayana and Vajrayana. The ''Shakya'' of the ''Fundamental Teacher Shakyamuni Buddha'' is his family name, the clan of Shakya. ''Muni'' means ''able to be kind,'' a saint ''able'' to truly perform ''kind''-ness in heaven and in the human realm. This ''kind'' is the ''kind'' of kindheartedness and the ''kindness'' of ''compassionate kindness.'' His mantra is ''Om。ma-ha-mou-ni。mou-ni。 ma-ha-mou-ni。shi-jia-mou-ni。so-ha。'' ''Om。ma-ha-mou-ni。mou-ni。mou-ni。ma-ha-mou-ni。shi-jia-mou-ni。so-ha。''
The meaning of this mantra is ''Able to be kind, able to be kind, able to give the most immense kindness, the saint.''
Let's pray to Shakyamuni to radiate his magnificent, brilliant light that illuminate the whole world. Because of Shakyamuni's homa may all beings of six realms no longer be ''hung upside down'' and may all beings of the netherworld be delivered to the pure buddha land; may all serious illnesses be cured; may Shakyamuni bestow his wisdom on us; may we be enriched by good fortune; may our desire for love and respect be fulfilled; and together may we be able to eradicate all manner of human calamities. (Applause) We are here sincerely praying that the Fundamental Teacher Shakyamuni Buddha, the Seven Buddhas, all Yogacara Ulka-mukha deities, and all deities of the Emperor Liang Repentance Ceremony will descend to Taiwan Lei Tsang Temple and bless all homa registrants and participants to be auspicious and have their wishes fulfilled.
Glossary:
''Hung upside down''
The sufferings in the three evil realms are beyond description in words, so being ''hung upside-down'' is used as an analogy.
