Dharma Teaching by His Holiness Living Buddha Liansheng
Recently, it seems that numerous fires have broken out in various places. Tomorrow, during the homa ceremony, His Holiness will perform a ritual, hoping that the fires will weaken and even be extinguished as soon as possible. Recently, natural disasters have been occurring frequently in various places, with earthquakes, floods, and fires occurring one after another. May all these natural disasters be extinguished as soon as possible.
His Holiness personally performs the Deliverance by Thousands of Dharma Vessels Practice every night. Sometimes, there are more spiritual beings present at night, causing him to wake up several times during the night.
His Holiness said that songs sung in human languages are very beautiful and can make people feel relaxed and comfortable. However, the songs of the heavenly realms are different and indescribable. Listening to them brings profound joy, without any negative thoughts, and one enters a state of supreme goodness. This is what is known as “Subtle Heavenly Music.”
Although songs in the human world may be beautiful, they can still easily stir up people's emotions and delusive thoughts. Therefore, sentient beings remain prone to following their afflictions and continuing to transmigrate in samsara. However, there is no such thing in the heavenly realms or in the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. As a result, there is no samsara.
Q&A
Question from Lotus Xiaoliang (Taiwan)
Grandmaster, may you be well and at peace.
Disciple Lotus Xiaoliang would like to ask Grandmaster whether the Emptiness Division of the Yamantaka Practice, the Great Ultimate Truth Practice, and the Great Auspiciousness Practice are closely related. Is there anything key that I should pay attention to?
His Holiness’ Answer
Yamantaka has many different practices, but the most important thing is still to attain spiritual union with him. Every practice begins with spiritual union, meaning that the mind of the practitioner becomes one with that of the principal deity.
Whether it is the Great Auspiciousness Practice or the Great Ultimate Truth Practice, they are actually interconnected. This is true of all practices.
This is what is meant by, "When one practice is mastered, all practices are mastered." Once one attains spiritual union with a principal deity, one will actually attain spiritual union with every principal deity. The only difference is the level of attainment.
His Holiness' Commentary on the Surangama Sutra, Volume Five
Practitioners cultivate through the six sense faculties. As long as one of them is opened, the others will also be accomplished, and the wondrously luminous true mind will manifest. The six sense faculties have no inherent self-nature. It is only because people use these faculties to interact with the external world that they mistakenly believe everything they perceive to be real, without realizing that all of it merely depends upon Buddha-nature.
As long as the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind remain bound by knots, one will never be able to see the wondrously luminous true mind that one inherently possesses. This is ignorance and delusive thought.
At this point, Shakyamuni Buddha, wishing to help the assembly understand the principles more clearly, summarized the teachings he had previously given in verse.
At that moment, after Venerable Ananda and everyone in the assembly who had listened to the Dharma heard the teachings contained in Shakyamuni Buddha's verses, their minds suddenly became clear and illuminated. This was an awakening they had never experienced before.
