Regulations for the Vajrasattva Purification Hall

The Purification and Blessing Ritual established by His Holiness Living Buddha Liansheng in his Book 283, Thousands of Dharma Vessels, can universally benefit sentient beings. It can also be used for repentance and purification of harmful actions, violations of precepts, habitual tendencies, the Two Obstacles, and so forth, enabling all future sentient beings to receive purification and blessings.

The relevant regulations governing the True Buddha School’s Vajrasattva Purification and Blessing Ritual are as follows:

  1. Requirements for Monastics of the School to Preside over the “Vajrasattva Purification and Blessing Ritual” (all of the following requirements must be met):
    1. Must be a monastic of the True Buddha School who engages in daily practice of True Buddha Tantric Dharma.
    2. Must have completed at least 100,000 recitations of the Hundred Syllable Mantra (Long Mantra).
    3. Must be a monastic who has not violated any major monastic or Vajrayana precepts.

  2. Requirements for Establishing a Purification Hall at a Cultivation Venue:
    1. The cultivation venue must possess the True Buddha lineage and be recognized by the True Buddha School.
    2. The venue should establish a dedicated Purification Hall. The sole principal deity of the mandala shall be Vajrasattva in his single form. A thangka of the “True Buddha Lineage Assembly Mandala (Refuge Tree)” may also be enshrined in the background.
    3. If a cultivation venue cannot establish a separate Purification Hall due to space limitations, it may designate a separate purification altar enshrining only Vajrasattva as the principal deity to serve as the symbol of a Purification Hall.
    4. A “purification broom” shall be enshrined in the Purification Hall as a ritual implement for purification.
    5. Every purification broom must be kept completely clean.
    6. Each broom must receive empowerment through 100,000 recitations of the Hundred Syllable Mantra.
    7. The cultivation venue must have a monastic who has completed 100,000 recitations of the Hundred Syllable Mantra (Long Mantra) preside over the purification ritual in the Purification Hall.

  3. Important Notes:
    1. Dharma propagation personnel of the True Buddha School must not use the Purification Hall or the Vajrasattva Purification and Blessing Ritual for personal fees or fundraising purposes.
    2. Those who receive the Purification and Blessing Ritual may make voluntary offerings to True Buddha School cultivation venues, after which the cultivation venues may make an offering to the presiding monastic.
    3. Offerings received by the Purification Hall may be used for the operation of the True Buddha School cultivation venue, or may be voluntarily donated to the True Buddha Foundation, the Lu Sheng-Yen Foundation, the Lotus Light Charity Society, or the local Vajrayana Association or Federation.
    4. Cultivation venues not recognized by the True Buddha School may not establish private Purification Halls to charge fellow disciples or solicit funds. If fellow disciples discover such activity, they may report it to the True Buddha Foundation for handling. If a monastic presides over a Vajrasattva Purification and Blessing Ritual for devotees without meeting the requirements, and consequently incurs karmic retribution, the monastic shall bear full responsibility for the resulting karmic consequences.
