Guidelines for Making Offerings in the Zashi Lhamo Practice

His Holiness Living Buddha Liansheng, the Lineage Root Guru, has provided the following supplementary instructions regarding the Zashi Lhamo Practice:

  1. Offerings such as khatas and mirrors may be replaced with new ones every half month.
  2. For each practice session, prepare nine cups of white liquor, symbolizing three rounds of toasts. After completing the practice, sprinkle the liquor in front of the statue or image of Zashi Lhamo. (If it’s not suitable to sprinkle liquor at the altar, you may collect it in a container.) Hold the cup and sprinkle the liquor in a clockwise circular motion, reciting in Taiwanese: “Gan-tsinn-gan-hoo-inn-inn, hoo-li-kin-ni-tua-than-tsinn (Sprinkle wine into a circle. May you prosper greatly this year.)"
Note: It may also be recited in Mandarin. ("Gan-tsinn-gan-hoo-uan-uan, gei-ni-jin-nian-da-zhuan-qian.")
  3. Food offerings should be replaced daily, or freshly prepared before each practice session.
  4. The two circular mirrors may be separate or joined together.
  5. White cloth may be used as a substitute for a white khata.
  6. You may offer mugwort leaves, pine needles, butter, and tsampa (barley flour), and other regular food offerings. If tsampa is unavailable, white flour may be used instead.

Best Regards,
