Rules for Dharma Propagation of Mahabala Practice and Other Uncommon Practices
On September 6, 2019, HH Lineage Root Guru Dharma King Lian-Sheng gave the following instruction:
True Buddha School (TBS) masters are permitted to preside over Mahabala ceremonies and bestow empowerment for Mahabala Practice and the mantra recitation in Grandmaster's name.
According to instructions given by Root Lineage Guru HH Dharma King Lian-Sheng on September 6, 2019, TBS masters are permitted to preside over Mahabala ceremonies and bestow empowerment for Mahabala Practice and the mantra recitation in Grandmaster's name. The following rules must be met before a TBS master may bestow empowerment on behalf of Grandmaster:
Personally performed 108 practices of this deity.
Performed 100,000 recitations of the deity's heart mantra.
Attainment of spiritual union with the deity is preferred.
◎ The Mahabala Practice will be included in the Rules for Masters section of the True Buddha School By-laws. The Mahabala Practice belongs to uncommon vajra practice. The related detailed rules are repeated below for reference by masters.
iii. Concerning all uncommon vajra practices already transmitted by Root Lineage Guru Living Buddha Lian-sheng, TBS Masters must meet the following criteria prior to bestowing empowerment and transmitting the dharma.
Personally performed 108 practices of the uncommon vajra practice.
Recited the required number of mantra recitations.
Attainment of spiritual union with the deity is preferred.
Six months after the Lineage Root Guru has formally propagated the dharma.
(Only TBS disciples will be deemed to have received the empowerment for the practice. Non-TBS disciples and devotees in general only receive blessings in connection with the deity.) In order to avoid disruption of the tantric lineage transmission and empowerment sequence, disciples who have recently taken refuge and received the empowerment for any uncommon vajra practice will be required to begin with cultivation of the Four Preliminary Practices.
iv. Masters may preside over group practices, offerings, homas, and ceremonies of any uncommon vajra practice only after the Root Lineage Guru has publicly transmitted the respective uncommon vajra practice and the master has received the empowerment for the practice.
◎ Below is a list of practices instructed by the Root Lineage Guru through the years for which he will no longer preside over, transmit, or bestow empowerment.
Per Grandmaster's instruction on September 9, 2011, Grandmaster will no longer preside over any ceremony with Mahabrahma as the principal deity, transmit the practice, or bestow empowerment for the practice or mantra recitation. TBS masters are not permitted to preside over ceremonies with Mahabrahma as principal deity or bestow empowerment for this deity's practice and mantra recitation.
On November 6, 2012, Grandmaster instructed that the empowerment for the practices of Vishnu and Garuda will no longer be bestowed. TBS Masters are not permitted to preside over ceremonies with these deities as principal deity nor are they permitted to bestow empowerment for their mantra recitation and practice.
On May 29, 2015, Grandmaster instructed that TBS Masters are not permitted to preside over ceremonies with Mahachakra Vajra / Mahachakra Bodhisattva as the principal deity nor are they permitted to bestow empowerment for this deity's mantra recitation and practice.
On May 30, 2015, Grandmaster instructed that Mahesvara Buddha Practice will no longer be transmitted. TBS Masters are not permitted to preside over ceremonies with Mahesvara Buddha as the principal deity nor are they permitted to bestow empowerment for this deity's mantra recitation and practice.
On April 27, 2019, Grandmaster instructed that empowerment for Machig Labdron and Troma Nakmo (the Black Wrathful Dakini) personal deity practice will no longer be bestowed. Remote empowerment for this practice and mantra recitation will likewise not be bestowed. TBS Masters may not preside over ceremonies with Machig Labdron and Troma Nakmo (the Black Wrathful Dakini) as the principal deity, and may not bestow empowerment for their respective practices and mantra recitation. Because of a request by disciples in the U.S.A. and Canada, Grandmaster exceptionally agreed to once again transmit and bestow the empowerment for the practice on November 24, 2019.
