【Cundi Buddha Mother Dharmalakṣaṇa Brief Introduction】
Cundi Buddha Mother is a great Buddha Mother who is light yellow in color. She has three eyes, eighteen arms, and wears a jewelled crown adorned with the image of a buddha. The arms of the Buddha Mother are adorned with jewelled bracelets and she wears white celestial garments.

Her eighteen arms hold many different dharma implements while the original pair of hands form the Root Mudra (All-inclusive Mudra) in front of her chest. In a clockwise direction the dharma implements she holds in her hands are: a wish-fulfilling pennant, lotus, bathing vase, lasso, eight-spoke wheel, conch, precious vase, wisdom chest, headdress, vajra sceptre, hook, axe, heavenly fruit, mala beads, wisdom sword, and Fearless Mudra. Altogether there are eighteen hands. Her attendants are the Dragon Kings Nanda and Upananda who are positioned below the lotus throne.

【Living Buddha Lian-sheng Sheng-yen Lu Dharma talk - Cundi Buddha Mother Background and Key Cultivation Formula】
''Prostrate and take refuge in precepts
Homage to Maha Cundi Buddha Mother''

Cundi Buddha Mother comes from Mahavairocana's Supreme Palace in the Dharma Realm. Therefore, Cundi Buddha Mother and Padmakumara have an identical origin. In Chinese Vajrayana, Taiwanese Vajrayana, and Eastern Vajrayana, Cundi Buddha Mother is very well-known and a principal personal deity for cultivation. In Tibetan Vajrayana, however, she is seen less often.

Cundi Bodhisattva's background is extraordinary. She emerged from the Buddha's entering into samadhi transformed supernaturally from the Ocean Infinite As Void. Cundi is known also as the ''Cundi Buddha Mother of Seventy Billion Deities'' and the ''Divine Hero Guanyin.'' Being the mother of all the deities of the Lotus class, she is therefore known as the Buddha Mother, the Mother of seventy billion buddhas and bodhisattvas. The word ''Cundi'' means ''supremely pure.'' Cundi Buddha Mother has eighteen arms and three eyes. She therefore has awesome power. Her Tantric epithets are All-conquering Vajra, Wish-fulfilling Vajra and Purification Vajra.

As Cundi Buddha Mother is an emanation of Shakyamuni Buddha, her dharma power is infinite and her appearance is in every way wonderful and majestic. The eighteen arms of Cundi Buddha Mother express Cundi Buddha Mother's eighteen merits of attaining Buddhahood. They represent eighteen uncommon practices and are the secret symbols of Cundi Buddha Mother endowed with profound and subtle principles.

The eighteen uncommon practices are able to annihilate the confusion and karmic hindrances of all sentient beings. One who practices this deity yoga is able to eradicate all past negative karma and avoid all calamities. All one wishes for in this lifetime, whether worldly or supramundane, the siddhis shall swiftly manifest. One may therefore take Cundi Buddha Mother as one's personal deity or as one's dharma protector. Her bodily color can be in white and yellow.

The Eight Great Bodhisattvas constitute the retinue of Cundi Buddha Mother. The Eight Bodhisattvas are Avalokitesvara, Maitreya, Akasagarbha, Samantabhadra, Vajrapani, Manjusri, Sarvanivarana-Viskambhin, and Ksitigarbha.

Cundi Buddha Mother's secret lies in her third eye. Tantric practitioners who seek to cultivate the third eye must visualize the third eye of the Buddha Mother emitting magnificent pure white light which shines upon one's own third eye (located in the brow-point) until one feels a tingling sensation at one's brow-point. After a long period of cultivation one will find that the mark of the ''Divine Eye'' appears on one's brow point. There is nothing hidden to the observation of one who has successfully cultivated the Divine Eye and nothing which cannot be known. The entire all-encompassing vastness of everything is within the Divine Eye! This is the secret hidden in Cundi Buddha Mother's third eye.

In the Mahaprajnaparamita-sastra these eighteen uncommon practices are:
  1. Body free of karmic hindrances
  2. Speech free of karmic hindrances
  3. Mind free of karmic hindrances
  4. Without evil thoughts
  5. Immovable tranquil mind
  6. Accomplishing everything properly
  7. Without desires
  8. Tirelessly saving sentient beings
  9. Immovable right mind
  10. Unchanging perfect wisdom
  11. Complete liberation
  12. Total realization of every aspect of liberation
  13. Wisdom inherent in all conduct
  14. Wisdom inherent in all speech
  15. Wisdom inherent in mind
  16. Unhindered wisdom of past lives
  17. Unhindered wisdom of future lives
  18. Unhindered wisdom of present life
Living Buddha Lian-sheng discoursed that Cundi Buddha Mother practice is a supreme and wonderful dharma. If one knows how to apply Cundi Buddha Mother's eighteen implements for the eradication of calamities, curing of illnesses, increasing wealth, fulfilling wishes, receiving love and respect, harmony, subjugating enemies, or exorcising evil spirits, all the above may be perfectly accomplished.

If one has dharma implements in hand, in one's cultivation practice one may hold the implement and visualize it radiating light which shines upon or touches ''persons'' or ''affairs and undertakings.'' If one does not have dharma implements, one may visualize light from the implements held by Cundi Buddha Mother shining upon or touching ''persons'' or ''affairs and undertakings.'' This is the secret of secrets.

Cundi Buddha Mother is in charge of five divisions or 25 divisions. Therefore Cundi Buddha Mother's mudra can be used as the mudras of many buddhas and bodhisattvas. Many people are unaware of this.

Cundi Buddha Mother's mantra is ''Om。 zhe-li-zhu-li。 zhun-ti。so-ha。'' which is her shortest mantra. Her mudra is the All-inclusive Mudra, Shakyamuni Buddha is in charge of everything, hence, Cundi Buddha Mother's mudra is the All-inclusive Mudra. The All-inclusive Mudra means that everything is included within it. Everytime I form mudras during fire ceremonies the first mudra I form is the Cundi Buddha Mother mudra, the All-inclusive Mudra.

Here we have a ''Cundi Mirror.'' When one cultivates Cundi Buddha Mother, one may look into this Cundi Mirror until the mirror is entirely full of light radiating upon oneself. One may even cultivate to the point where Cundi Buddha Mother appears within the Cundi Mirror.

If one is cultivating one's third eye, one may visualize Cundi Buddha Mother radiating light upon the Ajna Chakra above one's eyebrows. After a long period of cultivation one's third eye will open. Cundi Buddha Mother has this kind of power. She is extraordinary and truly marvelous.

The principal deity of Master Pufang was Cundi Buddha Mother. Master Pufang transmitted the Cundi Buddha Mother Practice to Grandmaster. Master Pufang established a temple named ''All-inclusive Temple'' in Shezidao, Taipei. Grandmaster Lu is in possession of the sadhana given to him by Master Pufang.
